Looking to get involved in the community?
The City of Lathrop has openings for you.
Last week the city posted a flier on its website calling for Lathrop residents interested in serving the community to consider one of the open commission or committee seats currently available – with 10 spaces available for adult residents and 13 seats available on the Youth Advisory Commission.
According to the flier, available spaces include:
Three seats on the Measure C Oversight Committee – which utilizes a format of three members appointed for two-year terms and two for three-year terms. That committee, which provides citizen oversight for the one-cent sales tax increase approved by voters in November of 2012, meets as needed to handle the responsibilities mandated by the ballot language. The term runs from July 1 through June 30,2021.
Two seats on the Lathrop Planning Commission, which reviews all relevant and necessary planning projects being considered by the city and forwards them on to the Lathrop City Council with a recommendation. The four-year term runs through June of 2022, and the meetings are held on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. at Lathrop City Hall.
Two seats on the Lathrop Parks and Recreation Commission, which oversees the city’s recreational offerings and helps provide staff with guidance towards crafting the growing city’s recreational offerings. The three-year term runs from July 1 through June 30, 2021, and the commission meets on the first Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. at Lathrop City Hall, located at 390 Towne Centre Drive.
Three spaces on the Lathrop Senior Advisory Commission, which manages the programming at the Lathrop Senior Center. Applicants must be at least 50 years of age, and are appointed to complete a three-year term – and no more than two consecutive terms. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of every month at 9 a.m. at the Lathrop Senior Center, located at 15707 5th Street.
Those wishing to participate on the Youth Advisory Commission must be between 13 and 18 years of age – from 7th through 12th grade – and available to serve for a one-year term that concludes on June 30, 2019. The meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m. at the Lathrop Generations Center – located at 450 Spartan Way.
Applications are available at City Hall, the Lathrop Community Center, the Lathrop Senior Center and online at www.ci.lathrop.ca.us. For additional information call 209.941.7230.
