Baseball’s all-time stolen base leader Rickey Henderson couldn’t even steal a moment to himself on Tuesday.
Several readers reported seeing the three-time Oakland A’s shopping for a depth finder in the marine department at the Bass Pro Shops, Manteca outdoor retail giant.
Customer service manager Justin Hall confirmed the sighting.
“Once a year we’ll have someone (a celebrity) drop in. For the most part, it’s a pretty rare thing,” he added. “The one down south usually gets a couple more than we do. For us, though, it was pretty exciting.”
Henderson played for nine teams from 1979 to 2003, including the Oakland A’s and New York Yankees. He is baseball’s standard bearer in stolen bases (1,406) and runs scores (2,295).
