Del Webb recognizing volunteers

Fifty men and women who have spent their lives volunteering and continue to do so are being honored tonight during a sold out sit down catered dinner at the Del Webb at Woodbridge clubhouse.

The honorees were chosen by Woodbridge residents voting based on present and past volunteerism in the Del Webb community, Manteca, and elsewhere.

Given the high level of volunteerism in the community, it had to be a tough choice.

As Neighborhood Watch groups go the Del Webb volunteers are legendary. Not only do they have the usual block captains, but they also patrol the community in golf carts and keep an eye on vehicles that enter the community that aren’t owned by residents.

Others faithfully collect litter and null weeds they see throughout the community.

Some teach others dance music and crafts.

There are hospital volunteers. A few and mentor tutor struggling kids. Some belong to the Manteca Chamber of Commerce and other boards.

Many provide helping hands for organizations such as the Second Harvest Food Bank and the Boys & Girls Club. They also raise money for the two organizations helping put food on the tables of struggling families plus making sure kids have a safe haven after school that provides a positive place to play and learn. Women of Woodbridge President Birdie Nieri noted that among the honorees are a librarian, therapy dog trainer, and a Court Appointed Special Advocate.

“Many will tell you that what they do is enjoyable and part of their life and would have it no other way,” she wrote. “When given an invitation to attend, the common response was, ‘I really didn’t do anything special.’  They just have volunteer built into their DNA. We are proud to have so many wonderful people in our little corner of the world.”

The Lifestyle Committee organizing the event is going first-class. The sit down dinner features three courses designed by Chef Mark Angelo of The Retro Chef. The Women of Woodbridge tea party hostesses are decorating the venue. Guests will be escorted to their reserved seats and wine steward will pour the wine of their choice.

Making the event possible are sponsors Thorson Financial Management, Steve’s Mobile Sunscreens, The Lori’s of PMZ Real Estate, and Silver Financial Freedom Insurance Solutions.
