Firefighters take licking, keep ticking

They take a licking but keep on ticking.

The long running Timex advertising slogan applies as well to City of Manteca firefighters.

When the crew of Engine 244 was hit head-on Tuesday afternoon by a sedan that strayed over the center line on West Yosemite Avenue just east of Union Road, Manteca Fire Chief Kirk Waters said they jumped into action despite two of them suffering minor injuries.

“They immediately got out and were hobbling around helping the three people that were hurt in the car,” Waters noted. “That’s what our guys are like.”

The two injured firefighters who didn’t hesitate to do their job were Engineer Travis Gooch and firefighter Derek Long.
