In-Shape Fit has joined the bootcamp craze, calling on an individual who knows a thing or two about unorthodox workouts.
The Fit Club, located in the Marketplace shopping center, has launched a free bootcamp class.
Key word: Fit.
Key word: Free.
Under the direction of Custom Built Fitness Manager Omar Cortez, In-Shape Fit hosted its first class last week. The turnout was encouraging; approximately 20 people took part in the morning and evening workouts.
The next bootcamp will be Thursday, Aug. 29, and will feature sessions at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. The workout will include plyometrics, agility and core work and a few surprise “team exercises,” Cortez said.
To enroll, participants need only to set up a guest pass at the front counter. There is an incentive for those that do decide to take up membership. New members will receive a one-hour fitness assessment by Cortez, a competitive lifter with tree-trunk arms.
A longtime trainer, Cortez incorporates grappling, boxing and chains into his workouts, supplementing traditional equipment.
He’s also carried heavy stones through the desert as part of a Arizona Strong Man competition.
