Manteca going to pot (co-op)?

David Jones wants to open a medical marijuana co-op in Manteca.

But first he needs to get the City Council to put an ordinance in place to make it legal to do so.

Jones made his pitch Tuesday at the Manteca City Council meeting. He even offered the city copies of other municipal ordinances including one adopted by Stockton. That city allows a medical pot dispensary for every 100,000 residents.

Jones said he wants to do it legal unlike the five other dispensaries that he says are operating illegally in Manteca that can be found by going to weedmaps.com.

It is not legal to sell marijuana for any reason in Manteca.

Since it was not an agenda item, the council couldn’t take a position one way or another. It could possibly come up at a future meeting.
