Michael Vega Park is being dedicated on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at River Islands at Lathrop.

Veterans’ Day is an appropriate time since Vega was Lathrop’s first fallen soldier in the Global War on Terror.

His family has been invited to attend the dedication of the lakefront park and receive a copy of the plaque that has been erected in the park.

Once the park is open, it will serve as the first community park at River Islands, with a huge playing field, lawns, picnic areas and play structures. Everything is up and green.

There are expected to be 50 families living in the planned community by year’s end.
