Moorhead confident her lead will hold

There are still thousands of provisional votes from the Nov. 8 Manteca City Council election to count.
But that hasn’t stopped incumbent Debby Moorhead from essentially declaring victory on her Facebook page.
Moorhead on the day after the election posted, “Well congratulations to all that ran. I respect anyone who runs for office. It’s stressful. Congrats Gary Singh . . . Just like I wanted it. Me and Gary. There are still some provisional votes out there that will be counted within the next three days we’ll see where we end up.”
After the initial precinct counting and some absentees that had been returned earlier prior to the election, Singh had 6,764 votes while Moorhead led Jeff Zellner by 110 votes with 5,575 to 5,465. The next nearest candidates running for the two open seats was Ben Cantu with 3,716 votes.
Whether Moorhead’s claim to victory holds up will be known in the coming days. The San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters expects an updated count this week with a final unofficial count sometime next week.

Fitness Evolution
already has a lot
of Manteca fans
How hungry is Manteca for another health club?
The answer is plenty.
Fitness Evolution has inked a deal with Poag & McEwen to open a 30,000-square-foot health club in the former Best Buy store space at The Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley anchored by Bass Pro Shops at Union Road and the 120 Bypass.
When it opens next year, it will be the largest health club facility in Manteca.
Sanjiv Chopra, originator and CEO of Fitness Evolution, said the firm received more than 1,000 requests from Manteca residents to open a location here.
They are people who are impressed with the firm’s three Modesto locations as well as two in Stockton and one in Ripon.
