No reportable income buys $42 wine bottle

An alert reader saw the photo embattled Manteca Unified School District trustee Ashley Drain posted on her Instagram site that was reproduced in the Bulletin as she and her husband worked at Michael-David Winery in Lodi.

The reader noted the wine in the photo was one of the winery’s best — “Lust.” It sells for $59 for non-club members and $42 for members.

“I find it quite amusing that someone with no reportable income can afford this wine,” the reader noted in an email referencing Drain filing out officeholder paperwork that said she had  no income. “ I have a decent income but can’t afford to buy it, by choice.

But of course, for her, it’s 100% write-off.  ( a reference to tax write-off advice Drain was dispensing on her Facebook account.) Apparently cost is no object. Must be nice.

“Thank you for keeping the public abreast of the issues taking place with the Manteca Unified School Board because most of us know ‘honesty is the best policy’.”

Drain and fellow trustee Alexander Bronson are in Stockton court Thursday at 1:30 p.m. on felony charges they did not reside at the address they submitted on  candidacy papers.

Drain also faces welfare and grand theft charges.
