SHARP team helped keep homeless warm

Members of the Seniors Helping Area Residents and Police (SHARP) Rapid Response Team are the unsung heroes of the effort to keep the homeless warm during the recent string of freezing overnight temperatures.

When the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) was unable to secure volunteers from its ranks to staff the midnight to 4 a.m. shift to keep the Manteca Senior Center open as a warming center, the SHARP Rapid Response Team stepped up.

Although not part of RRT’s function, members agreed to help and watched over the homeless Wednesday through Saturday. That was in addition to their other volunteer patrol duties as well as supporting traffic and crowd control during the downtown Manteca Twilight Holiday Parade.
