The man with the silver tongue

Richard Silverman can turn a complex issue into witty one line zingers.

The Manteca City Council hopeful made the following observations:

• On critics against the proposed 500-room Great Wolf Resort with an indoor waterpark that may go next door to Manteca’s Costco simply based on the fact the public can’t pay for access to the water park only: “I don’t see people complaining because they can’t access the Hampton Inn swimming pool (if they’re not a guest).”

• On those that blame global warming solely on emissions and scientific data that shows many of the world’s glaciers have been retreating significantly over the past 200 years: “It must have been those big SUVs back then (in the 18th century).”

Silverman’s campaign literature even reflects his wit.

A flyer for his upcoming campaign fundraiser at Delicato Vineyards on Thursday, Aug. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. lists some of his supporters as “Silver Sponsors.” The list includes Assemblywoman Kristen Olsen, Toni Marie and Andrew Sephos, Marty and Kerry Harris, Lucille Harris, and Manteca Development Group among others.
