Tammy’s Baby Shoppe in Manteca is giving another try at making the Guinness Book of World Records.

The category: The Great Cloth Diaper Change. The event will be held to coincide with Earth Day celebrations. The cloth diaper change at the Manteca store downtown will be one of many sites throughout the world holding the event in unison at the same time in their quest for the world record. The day’s celebration will be held in the morning beginning at 9 o’clock on Saturday, April 21.

“We had 5,026 participants globally last year,” reported Tammy Holland who owns the store with husband Willie.

The purpose of the diaper-change event is “to help save the environment,” Willie Holland said.

To be officially part of the universal effort, Tammy’s Baby Shoppe has to have at least 25 people taking part. The number depends on how many the site can accommodate.

“We have room for at least 32,” Willie Holland said.

There will be a program prior to the actual changing of the diapers. A video of last year’s Great Diaper Change at Tammy’s Baby Shoppe will be one of the activities. Former Manteca Police public information officer will also reprise his role as last year’s emcee as well.

Participants have to sign up to take part in the worldwide Cloth Diaper Change.

Deadline is “until we get 30 people,” Willie Holland said.
