Bass Pro Shops Go Outdoors event coming up

Bass Pro Shops’ National Go Outdoors Event is a way to give kids – and adults –  the chance to learn about the outdoors, and the reason why is simple.  

Kids need this chance to re-connect with the outdoors to learn valuable lessons —how to swim, how to camp, first aid, survival techniques, orienteering, conservation—but more importantly, to become good stewards of the land and its natural resources, to feel good about themselves and to improve their general health and well-being.

During the National Go Outdoors Event going on at Bass Pro Shops, 1356 Bass Pro Drive in Manteca, May 21-31, kids (and adults) can get off their couches and go enjoy the great outdoors with the following free events:

Saturday, May 22

• Join James Swan and California Game Wardens as they shine a spotlight on one of the state’s most important components in the conservation of California’s natural resources.

• GPS Basics seminar at 1 p.m. - Navigation experts will cover the basics of using a GPS unit for fun, fishing and safety.

• Camping 101 seminars at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. – The camping staff will be on hand to help prepare for the best possible camping trip.

• Introduction to Fly Fishing seminar at 2 p.m. – Learn the basics of fly fishing including types of equipment, tackle selection, rigging your gear and casting techniques.
 
Sunday, May 23
• Selecting your Canoe/ Kayak seminars at 1 and 3 p.m. – Experts explain the different types of canoes and kayaks we have available and their features

 
Saturday, May 29

• USDA Forest Service will be here educating the public on campfire safety.  Kids can say hi to Smokey Bear, play games and listen to stories.  Parents can learn the importance of campfire safety and get permits while here.

• GPS Basics seminar at 1 p.m. – Navigation experts will cover the basics of using a GPS unit for fun, fishing and safety.

• Hiking Half Dome Seminar at noon – Rick Deutsch will be here to explain how to hike Half dome safely.  He has written the only guide to this extremely strenuous hike, titled “One Best Hike: Yosemite’s Half Dome.”
