Music lovers will get a chance to enjoy the ambiance of live acoustic music while at the same time benefiting one of the nation’s leading children’s charities.

On Saturday, May 8, Heather Elkins of the Bean and Leaf Café will be welcoming a handful of acoustic artists for a showcase that will benefit that Children’s Miracle Network – adding another event to the privately owned community café that has taken great strides in opening its doors to live music in an attempt to bring more artistic variety to the community.

After Elkins – who initially worked at the café when it first opened and returned recently to purchase it from original owner Richard Kinsall – was approached by a member of band Launchpad Away to organize the event, she jumped in with both feet and soon began to assemble a case that includes Launchpad Away, Jan Fiasco of the group Lover’s Plea, Christian Quiwa, Dan Vallerand, Nathan Looney from Skouts Honor with Ty Caskey, Jordan Waters and Elle Lewis.

Events at the Bean and Leaf Café have, in the past, included free acoustic performances on a regular basis – Elkins’ way to both bring in customers and serve the loyal clientele that go out of their way to frequent the quaint mom-and-pop-style shop that is approaching its 20-year anniversary.

Tickets for the event – which begins at 5 p.m. and is expected to wrap up at around 9 p.m. – can be purchased at the door.

Proceeds from a raffle that will be held will also be donated to the cause.

The Bean and Leaf Café is located at 1254 Lathrop Road, inside of the Raley’s shopping center. For more information, call 239-2326.
