Todd Chapman is a member of the Journey Church’s youth group.

He and his older brother, Eric, 18, are both being raised by their grandmother, according to Twylia Markle, the youth pastor of the former Church of the Nazarene.

Chapman, 16, recently endured a series of tragedies.

“(Todd) lost his father and a four-year-old half brother in a car accident in August,” she said. “His mother passed just this last year as well.”

On Wednesday, Sept. 30, Journey Church at 444 Argonaut St., Manteca – for locals, that’s the church in charge of the annual Easter in the Park – will be hosting a dinner, gift sale and raffle to benefit the Chapmans.

The fundraising event begins at 6:30 p.m.

Dinner is $10 and $5 for children age 12 through 5. Those younger are free.

The menu consists of spaghetti, salad, bread rolls, and ice cream cups.

The gift sale will feature an assortment of knick knack items at $5 each. Included are wind chimes, wooden crosses, and various statuettes, to name a few.

“The family has been through so much pain. We want to do our part to help out,” said Markle, who has been youth pastor for the past three years.
