A 65-year-old bicyclist was killed in the Tuesday noon hour when crossing Louise Avenue near the Tidewater Bike Path west of North Main Street.
Officers and medical personnel arrived on the scene to find the victim suffering from major injuries after colliding with a Dodge Caravan.  The bicyclist was transported to the San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp where he reportedly passed away shortly after arriving.
The Manteca Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) was summoned to the scene and is currently investigating the accident.  The MAIT team consists of members of the Manteca department and investigations unit.
Police Lt. Tony Souza said the initial assessment showed the bicyclist made an abrupt turn to cross Louise Avenue in the path of the van traveling eastbound.  The 55-year-old driver of the van was a Lathrop resident.  The bicyclist’s name was not released pending the notification of his family.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is urged to contact Detective Stephen Schluer at 456-8210.
