Body found in river was missing Modesto man

The body of an adult male found snagged in branches along the south side of the Stanislaus River near the fourth tee of the Spring Creek Country Club in Ripon on Tuesday has been identified as Gary Johnson, 74, of Modesto.
Johnson who reportedly  suffered dementia and short term memory loss walked away from his Modesto home on April 1.  He had been the focus of a continuing intensive search by volunteers that included members of a senior citizen softball league he and his older brother had joined.
The exact cause of death hasn’t been determined.
