A six-year-old child walking with his dad and 4-year-old brother was hit by a car Monday shortly after 9 p.m. while the three of them were in a crosswalk on West Atherton Drive at Pagola Avenue near Veritas School.

Manteca public information officer Rex Osborn said the dad, Gulfan Khan, was holding the hand of the younger boy and the 6-year-old was trailing behind them when he was struck by a vehicle and thrown some 40 feet onto the roadway.

The dad reportedly picked up his son out of the street and moved him onto a grassy area before the arrival of the Manteca Ambulance and fire department medics.  Osborn said the child was transported to Kaiser Hospital where a helipad is available and was then transported by a REACH helicopter to the U.C. Davis Medical Center.

The boy was reported to have multiple injuries in the pelvic area and legs and in serious but stable condition Tuesday night in an intensive care unit.

The driver of the car, Manani Nasir, 30, of Manteca was not injured in the crash and stopped when she realized she had struck someone, Osborn said.  The dad and the younger boy were not injured in the incident.
