Boys & Girls honoring youth of year Thursday

Six Manteca-Lathrop Boys & Girls Club members are competing for Youth of the Year honors.

The winner will compete against other Boys & Girls members from across California for state Youth of the Year competition and a $1,000 college scholarship from Tupperware Brands Corporation. State Youth of the Year moves on to compete in the Pacific Regional finals to ultimately contend for the title of National Youth of the Year.

On Thursday, Feb. 6, the Boys & Girls Club will have their local competition at Chez Shari at 6 p.m. The night will be filled with recognizing the most outstanding members from last year and entertainment from the club’s music program members and a martial arts demo from the club’s martial arts students.

The 2014 Youth of the Year finalist are Maliah Watson, Emmanuel Torres, Frankie Lopez, Tryana Davis, Selena Lopez, and Miguel Lopez.

Other awards being presented Thursday are Athlete of the Year, Miguel Lopez; Educational Person of the Year, Melissa Quintana; Gamesroom Person of the Year, Gustavo Espinoza; Kathy Aartman Artist of the Year, Ellianna Jasso; Torch Club Member of the Year, Brianna Folsom; Ag In Motion Member of the Year, Jimmy Maldonado; Junior Staff Member of the Year, Trayana Davis; Teen Room Member of the Year, Frankie Lopez; and Performing Artist of the Year, Dreama Diaz.
