Students in Robin Taberna’s Tae Kwon Do Academy made use of their day off from school on Monday.

At the new Sears hometown store on Spreckels Avenue and Norman Drive, Daniel Cruz, Noah Galapon, Joseph Galapon, Phillip Luevano, Shane Luevano, Matthew Rehmke and Nathan Rehmke displayed their technique and form in the martial arts.

According to John Scharf of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Manteca/Lathrop – Taberna conducts his Tae Kwon Do Academy out of there – the exhibit under the direction of Taberna was a promo for the store’s Friends and Family event.

“It’s here that we partner with different organizations in our community,” said store manager Robin Sparks.

Added Scharf: “This is a win-win.”

He had his information booth on the local Boys and Girls Clubs next to the Tae Kwon Do Academy, with Taberna using this event to share information on the Golden State Karate Association.

That’s where members of his academy take part in tournaments held throughout Northern California. The finals for this year will be held in Reno.

Sparks, in addition, said that the Friends and Family event included mark downs such as 50 percent off certain items in the store and 10 percent off clearance items.
