More than 50 men from 11 churches in the area attended the Central Valley Men’s Prayer Night on Monday held at Calvary Community Church in Manteca.

“It’s the first one in quite a while,” Larry Elliott said of the event which was hosted by Calvary Community, Men’s Ministry Catalyst, and Shelter Cove Church in Modesto. Elliott is the director of Calvary Men’s Ministry: No Man Fights Alone.

The last Central Valley Men’s Prayer Night was held several years in Modesto which attracted more than 150 men. Elliott said they are trying to revive that and play to do it quarterly from now on in different church.

The evening of prayer is open to all men regardless of the church denomination to which they belong, he said. Several of those who attended Monday’s Prayer Night were pastors from the area.

“We pray for everybody but it’s a men’s gathering,” Elliott explained. “We pray as a group and as individuals.”

The evening program includes scripture readings as well as a message from a speaker. Monday night’s speaker was Calvary Community’s new pastor, the Rev. Joe Brown, who “spoke about the power of prayer.”

No date has been set for the next Central Valley Men’s Prayer Night, Elliott said.
