If you’ve always wanted to learn how to use layers and masks in Photoshop, here is an opportunity for you to have a whole afternoon of hands-on tutoring in Manteca.

The Manteca Camera Club on Saturday, Sept. 19, is sponsoring a workshop on Layers and Masks in Photoshop using the popular software programs Elements 5.0 and the more advanced and professional Photoshop CS4. The class, to be led by photographer Glenn Scott, will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Manteca Branch Public Library on Center and Poplar streets downtown.

“Learn how to utilize layers and masks within these two Photoshop products. It’s easier than you think and can give you some dramatic results,” said Lyn Price, Camera Club president.

Admission is free to club members and family; $5 for the general public.

Some of the topics to be covered include:

•Photo Retouching - creating and adjusting catch lights in the eyes, how to lighten eyes, how to adjust the color of eyes, how to adjust eyebrows, how to put highlights in hair, how to whiten teeth, how to fix skin blemishes, how to soften skin, how to remove wrinkles, how to add eye shadow, and how to adjust lip colors.

•Using Adjustment Layers - hue and saturation to remove redness from skin, using levels to bring back detail in the shadows.

Other topics will be covered as time permits. For those attending, feel free to bring a laptop for practice and to bring pictures on CD-ROM that you think have potential. “If we have time, we may be able to do some live adjustments,” Price said.
