Presidential debate on State’s big screen

MODESTO - The State Theatre is conducting a no-charge, 90-minute, live broadcast of the second of three Presidential Debates on Tuesday, Oct. 16, when President Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney face off in a town hall format at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.

Citizens will ask questions of the candidates on foreign and domestic issues, and each candidate will be given two minutes to respond. A moderator will have an additional minute to facilitate a discussion. Town meeting participants will consist of “undecided voters selected by the Gallup Organization.”

Both parties will have tables in the lobby, and a lively debate, led by local political leaders and analysts, including Joan Clendenin and Professor Larry Giventer, will follow the broadcast.
