RIPON — Two victims of a head-on crash at the corner of River and Carrolton roads Monday afternoon sustained major injuries, according to CHP spokesman Angel Arceo, and were taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
The two small children in the crash were reportedly treated and released from the hospital after being transported by one of the three ambulances at the scene.
The driver of the westbound Honda was Gabriela Cervantes-Flores, 21, of Escalon. Her residence was previously reported as Stockton per her identification. The CHP spokesman said she and another woman passenger in the front seat with two children in the back were traveling about 50 miles per hour at Carrolton Road when an eastbound Dodge Stratus attempted to make a left turn onto Carrolton.
The cars collided head-on, the officer said. The driver of the eastbound vehicle was Cody Fondse, 18, of Ripon, according to the CHP spokesman. Fondse was reportedly unhurt in the crash.
Officer Arceo urges parents with small children to use the services available at the CHP office in Stockton for free car seat installations and inspection of currently used seats.
