The City of Manteca Fire Department Engine 242 crew composed of acting Captain Travis Gooch, engineer Armando Blanco, and firefighter Derek Leong put together an extinguisher training class using live fire at the municipal wastewater quality control facility.

The extinguisher training class included city employees from the water treatment plant, Parks and Recreation Department, Manteca Police Department, and the engineering department. Gooch spoke to the group on the components, maintenance and  proper use of an extinguisher, Then, the  engine crew provided live fire and had the group extinguish the fire one at a time.

In the past, the Manteca Fire Department has conducted extinguisher training classes throughout the year to city employees as well as others in the public such as Merrill Gardens, Prestige Senior Living and the fireworks booth personnel prior to selling fireworks.

Using an extinguisher may seem easy under normal conditions, but when one is faced with  live fire it’s often a different story. This is why they use live fire during the training classes.
