Nile Garden Elementary School was placed on a lockdown Thursday morning, according to a San Joaquin County Sheriff’s spokesman, when a clown was spotted outside the playground’s chain link fence.
Nile Garden is located just west of South Union Road on Nile Avenue, south of Manteca.
Deputies responded and located a 14-year-old student who they detained wearing clown garb and a painted facial mask.  An eighth grader at the school, he was suspended by the administration and later released to his mother.
Students were kept inside their classrooms until deputies cleared the potential threat after learning the clown was not a danger to the kindergarten through eighth grade students. With Halloween approaching certain clown activity has been occurring across the country recently.
