If wearing green isn’t enough of a celebration for you on St. Patrick’s Day, Frank Teixeira has got you covered.
The Fagundes Meats and Catering owner is currently putting the finishing touches on prepping 400 pounds of corned beef and cabbage for the annual St. Patrick’s Day feast at The Pub and Longue on N. Main Street – which every year offers the free traditional Irish staple for anybody who wants to come out and celebrate.
Rather than charging per plate or at the door, the bar – which has been partnering with Fagundes for the last five years for the savory food which also includes potatoes and other fixings – asks for a donation that will go towards Autism research, a cause near and dear to Teixeira’s heart.
“It’s the one day of the year that everybody is Irish – even those of us that are Portuguese,” Teixiera said with a laugh about what he loves about the traditionally party-heavy holiday. “And it’s also one of those holidays where food is such a big part of it, and I’ve always been a fan of bringing people together to enjoy food with one another.
“It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from – it’s a day that’s all about good food and good times for a good cause and that’s really why we get behind this.”
The free community feed will start at noon at The Pub and Longue – located at 1305 N. Main Street – and continue until everything is gone. Donation bins will be available for those who wish to contribute towards autism research and understanding – a cause near-and-dear to the heart of Teixeira, who has an autistic son and has long supported fundraisers and other functions that raise money for the disorder that affects so many different lives.
