Council appoints seven to youth commission

Seven new members are joining the Manteca Youth Advisory Commission.

The City Council this week appointed Hailee Bouthillier, Robert Dominguez, Brian Erik Burns, Lisa Thomas, Danielle Harder, Alex Orr, and Alexis Mulherin to the commission. The youth group coordinates a number of events including the teen dances and assists with various community projects,

They also are called on occasionally to advise the council on youth issues.

Applicants are still being sought for three remaining vacancies. For more information contact the city clerk’s office by calling 456-8017.

The seven new members’ backgrounds are as follows:

•Hailee Bouthiller is an East Union senior who served on the commission her sophomore and junior years. She has spent four years teaching with the St. Anthony’s Religious Education Program, is a four-year spirit leader at East Union High, and has served as part of the East Union Link Drew for two years.

•Robert Dominguez is an East Union High senior who has volunteered for various commission activities including chaperoning the dances at Golden West School. He has participated in football and baseball on the high school level.

•Brian Erik Burns is an East Union High student who raised $1,600 to send to the Haiti earthquake relief effort through the Red Cross.

•Lisa Thomas is a Sierra High senior who has served as cheer captain for four years, carries a 4.25 grade point average, is involved in student government, and has been a member of the California Scholastic Federation for four years. She is the current senior class president, served as junior class president and was class vice president her freshmen and sophomore years. She has organized blood drives, put together teams for the Relay for Life, and was chairman of the 2010 Sierra High prom.

•Danielle Harder attends St. Mary’s High in Stockton where she is a member and choreographer for the varsity dance team. She serves as a cadet with the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets and currently volunteers as a tutor with Give Every Child a Chance.

•Alex Orr is a Sierra High sophomore plays in the Sierra High band and jazz band, is in a Horizon Band through GK Music and has a band of his own. He carried a 4.0 grade point average his freshman year.

•Alexis Mulherin is an East Union student who has served as a peer educator in Students in Prevention and is involved in the student leadership class. She has volunteered at St. Mary’s Interfaith Services as well as the Children’s Home in Stockton and has organized and assisted in blood drives.
