Like the early bird catching the worm, Mantecans Greg Cattanach and wife Irene got up at the crack of dawn on Saturday with flashlights and headed downtown where they found the hidden pumpkin guided by hints in the Manteca Bulletin contest clues.

The bright orange gourd was behind the front pillar at the front door of the historic El Rey Theater-turned Kelly Brothers Restaurant and Brewery which is now shuttered. Greg and Irene Cattanach received the $100 prize for finding the lucky pumpkin.

The clues for the second week were as follows:

• ”These bricks are sweet.” - The bricks at the front entrance to Kelley Brothers were salvaged when the old Spreckels Sugar warehouse was torn down more than a dozen years ago. Spreckels warehouse bricks also make up the entry signs to the Spreckels Park business and retail development.

• “You ought to be in pictures.” - In reference to the fact Kelley Brothers opened in the remodeled El Rey Theatre.

• “The King is gone.” - El Rey is Spanish for “The King” so therefore “El Rey is gone.”

Clues for the third week and a chance to win $100 will appear in the Manteca Bulletin’s Weekend Edition on Saturday.
