Two men in their mid-30s narrowly escaped injury shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday when they ducked behind their car in an attempt to dodge gun fire near the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Alameda Street.

The men were reportedly chatting standing outside their vehicle that was parked on Walnut when a sedan drove up occupied by four men said to be overweight and of Hispanic descent and wearing red caps and white T-shirts.

The victims told Manteca Police that the car first stopped about 50 feet away and two of the men began shouting obscenities at them.  They got out of the car and fired their weapons using a shotgun and a .25 caliber pistol.  That was when the targeted victims ran behind their car using it for cover, police said.

After hitting the car with gun fire the duo got back in their car and drove away in what was described as possibly a Chevy Tahoe, police said.  Detective Ranch Johnson is the lead investigator in the case.
