3 men arrested on suspicion of burglary

RIPON – Three men are in custody at San Joaquin County Jail on suspicion of burglary, attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools and conspiracy to commit crime, thanks to an alert police officer.

At approximately 1 a.m. on Tuesday, Sgt. Don Luthey who was on patrol in the area of West Fourth Street and South Jack Tone Road, observed two male subjects walking in the area. He also observed that the two were walking away from a vehicle that was parked.

Sgt. Luthey made contact with the two men while Officers Trevor McGinnis and Chailan Chahouati arrived to assist.

Officer Chahouati contacted the driver of the vehicle and after a brief investigation determined that all three subjects were associates of each other. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Rafael Mundo, 29, of Los Angeles. The two pedestrians were identified as Cruz Becerril, 20, and Angel Medina, both of Stockton.

Upon further investigation, the officers found communication devices in the vehicle and on Becerril. The officers also located several tools commonly used to break into vehicles in the suspect vehicle.

Sgt. Luthey located two vehicles in the area  that had been either broken into or had been attempted to be broken into. After canvassing the area, officer Chahouati located burglary tools discarded in some bushes where the suspects had been seen.

All three suspects were arrested and taken into custody. Mundo is also being charged with theft with prior convictions for theft.
