You can help law enforcement catch the bad guys.
All you have to do is go to the new website www.southcountycrimestoppers.org and check out videos of crimes, cases police are looking for help with, as well as check out the most wanted list to see if you have information that could put criminals behind bars.
You don’t have to have your name involved. Plus you can obtain a reward up to $1,000 if you have information that leads to the arrest of responsible suspects.
“The courts have held that we (law enforcement) can use anonymous tips for search warrants and that we don’t have to reveal the names,” noted Manteca Police spokesman Rex Osborn.
The phone line that provides directions on how to stay anonymous as well as how to secure a reward if it gets to that point can be reached by calling (209) 823-4636.
A number of crimes over the years have been resolved through the tip line that has reward money generated through donations and sometime fundraisers conducted by the community-based South County Crime Stoppers board.
The organization was founded 30 years ago by a host of local leaders including Ted Poulos and Dorothy Indelicato among others.
The web site has just been added.
The site features all the jurisdictions involved in the Crime Stoppers program in South San Joaquin County including the Sheriff, Manteca, Lathrop, Escalon, Ripon and French Camp communities and the un-incorporated area south of French Camp Road. The San Joaquin County Probation Department and California Highway Patrol were recently invited to participate in the tip-reward program. The features of the web site include videos of unsolved crimes that specifically show the crime that needs attention.
The web site will be linked to the area police agencies and with Lodi, Stockton and Stanislaus County Crime Stoppers programs. People are encouraged to contact any crime stoppers program and give information to solve crime, prevention crimes and recover stolen property. All callers are anonymous and could receive up to $1,000 cash reward and not have to give their names.
The South San Joaquin County Crime Stoppers phone is answered 24 hours a day at (209) 823-4636. Crime stoppers are currently accepting citizens’ applications from all the communities to serve on the volunteer board of directors and they are also accepting donations. No public funds are spent on rewards. All the reward funds come from private donations.
