A 3-year-old Manteca child was reportedly burned in his bathtub shortly before 1 p.m. on Monday receiving first and second degree burns.

Manteca Police said Kamilah Tahirah Hurt, 26, was booked into San Joaquin County Jail on charges of felony child abuse and felony child endangerment against her son.

Manteca patrolman Kenny Wells arrived at the home in the 500 block of Eastwood Avenue to find the boy with his father who said he had been away from the residence when his son was burned.

He reportedly told officers he suspected the mother had intentionally burned the little boy in the bath water.

Manteca Ambulance medics transported the boy to an area hospital where the emergency room doctor confirmed that the burns were consistent with exposure to hot water and described them as first and second degree.

Detectives Wayne Miller and Jason Downs concluded in their investigation that the burns were, in fact, intentional.

It was also determined by the detectives that the father was not involved.  After the child was treated at the emergency room he was released to the care of his father.  Bail for Hurt was set at $66,666.

Child Protective Services (CPS) is also involved in the investigation.
