TRACY – The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a man that they believe murdered a man over the weekend and left his body in a South County field.

Juan Cristobal Sanchez, 23, was arrested on Sunday, July 27 and charged with murder after a resident along the 19000 block of Kasson Road discovered the body of an identified deceased male lying in an open field with a gunshot wound to the chest the day before.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of his family.

Sanchez is also being charged with vehicle theft and is set to appear at the San Joaquin County Superior Court on Tuesday, July 29 at 1:30 p.m.

Saturday’s discovery was less than a mile from the intersection of Airport Way and Kasson Road and just next to the San Joaquin River Club. Just across the river is the Durham Ferry State Recreation Area, and Jimmy’s One Stop – a convenience store, bar and grill popular with South County farmers and ranchers – sits right where the two roads intersect.
