A 31-year-old man barricaded himself in his home for five hours Monday morning in the 700 block of Amy Way after his girlfriend and her children fled the residence for their safety.

Amy Way is north of Tannehill Drive in the Woodward Park neighborhood south of the 120 Bypass.

Kevin Connery reportedly threatened his girlfriend in the predawn hours during a domestic violence incident with a deadly weapon other than a gun, police said. Manteca Police officers and a SWAT team responded shortly before 5 a.m. and set up a command center. The residential area was cordoned off for two blocks in each direction.

After talking with a negotiator by phone, first at 6 a.m., Connery came out of the home and surrendered six hours later. Police said he had cut his hand with a knife, bleeding on the lawn before medics reached him. He was transported to Doctors Hospital in Manteca and later taken to San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp.

He is being charged with domestic violence with assault on a cohabitant of the home on Amy Way and for allegedly making criminal threats.

He is scheduled to appear in the Manteca Branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court on Wednesday, March 4, at 1:30 p.m. Bail was set at $253,000.
