A swift police response was credited for the capture of one man and two women who allegedly attempted to burglarize a house in the Mayors’ Park neighborhood in West Manteca near East Union Cemetery Wednesday afternoon.
Arrested within half an hour of a woman’s desperate call to Manteca Police were Patrick Wayne Spray, 31, -recently released from parole; Lauraly Louise Wright, 30, and Brandi Boutte, 28.
It was about 3 p.m. at a home near the corner of Union Road and Kelley Drive when a woman said she heard a knock at her front door. She told officers she had been taking a shower, got out and walked to the front door where she looked out through her peep hole.
She said she could see one woman at her door and another sitting in a car at the curb. Ignoring the knock she returned to the shower. A short time later her two dogs began barking inside her home and she went to check for the cause. She met a man coming down her hallway who had apparently entered through her back door.
He reportedly was as shocked as she was at they met in the hallway. Police said the dogs were agitated at the suspect who ended up kicking one across the floor as he ran out the back door.
Patrolman John Moody spotted Spray minutes later on foot at Pfister Court as the officer was driving southbound on Snyder Avenue. Moody said the man dropped down on his stomach behind a car that was parked close to a house on the corner of the court.
Moody arrested the man without incident while other officers searched for the two women.
Officer Grant Flory located Brandi Boutte, 28, standing in front of a home in the 3500 block of Louise Avenue. She was pretending to be talking with construction workers she knew, police said.
Other officers responding to the Louise address included Moody and Jason Hensley. They immediately extended their search to the back yard of the home where they located Lorali Wright, 30, and took her down at gunpoint.
Police said she was hiding under a pile of rubbish near the swimming pool in the back yard of the residence. Meanwhile detectives Steve Harris and Sam Gallego were searching through the suspects’ car. They said they found IDs and paper work belonging to someone unassociated with the trio.
Wright was charged with two felonies in the burglary attempt including conspiracy to commit a crime and a misdemeanor for the possession of burglary tools. She is being held at San Joaquin County Jail in lieu of $511,500 bail.
Boutte was charged with two felonies as well including conspiracy to commit a crime. Their court appearances are set for May 1, in the Manteca Branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court.
Patrick Spray was assigned $510,000 in bail with another $20,000 warrant for two previous felonies for commercial burglary and petty theft with a prior burglary.
His fresh charges Wednesday included four felonies from burglary to conspiracy to commit a crime. Spray is scheduled to appear in the Stockton Branch of San Joaquin County Superior Court April 30 at 1 p.m. in Stockton.
