Timothy Uecker, 28, of Manteca was identified by Manteca Police spokesman Rex Osborn as Wednesday night’s shooting victim.

Uecker was hit in the legs by one bullet that police said penetrated both of his legs as he was standing in the 100 block of Sycamore Avenue next to an older Manteca hotel, just north of Yosemite Avenue.

Police cordoned off the entire intersection, keeping it secure for the investigation conducted by department detectives.  Officers kept his identity confidential until late Thursday morning wanting to protect him from further confrontations.

It was unknown whether the shooter was in a passing car or actually standing nearby on the street or sidewalk.

Officers said they have no witnesses to the shooting, adding that the victim was choosing not to cooperate with police.  He was transported to Doctors Hospital of Manteca for treatment of his injuries.
