A gang-related shooting in an alley near Library Park in downtown Manteca resulted in the car of an innocent victim being hit as he was driving down Manteca Avenue late Friday afternoon.

Manteca Police spokesman Rex Osborn said the incident started after 5:30 p.m. when rival gang members recognized each other outside of 108 Sycamore Avenue.

The gang members walked into the alley between Sycamore Avenue and Manteca Avenue immediately north of West Yosemite Avenue where shots were fired.

A passing car driven by a Ripon resident was hit in by gunfire.

The driver fled the area. That vehicle was later pulled over by police on North Main Street north of Alameda Street. The car was found to have bullet damage. Police said the driver - fearing for his safety - sped away from the area.

Police found a shell casing in the alley way.

No one was injured in Friday’s gang-related shooting that came on the heels of three drive-by shootings within four hours between late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning that ended up with two gang members shot. None of the injuries were life threatening. One gang member, though, who was released from the hospital with bullets still lodged in knee and buttocks was knifed on his way home and returned to the hospital for further treatment.
