Gunfire for second time sprays apartments walls

Multiple shots were fired into the front wall of an apartment in the 100 block of South Street sometime after 8 a.m. Saturday.

Manteca Police Sgt. Jody Estarziau said that officers were called about 10 a.m. when the bullet holes were discovered in the outside wall surrounding the windows.  None of the rounds actually penetrated the wall and into the living quarters, police said.

Neighbors in the Southside Park neighborhood told officers they heard the pops but thought it was only area teens shooting off fireworks.  The residents of the unit  were in the process of moving out of the apartment that had already been the target of gunfire in recent weeks.

Sgt. Estarziau said that numerous bullet casing were found in the street in front of the victim’s address.  There were apparently no leads and no witnesses who recalled seeing a responsible vehicle in the neighborhood.
