Danny Martinez, 26, of Lathrop and a 30-year-old friend were beaten and shot in gunfire that erupted around 6:30 p.m. Monday in an industrial park district in the 17000 block of Ideal Parkway East off East Highway 120 just outside Manteca’s city limits.

Martinez, who attended Manteca schools, was killed in the shooting and was reportedly unresponsive when deputies arrived at the scene. He was pronounced dead by paramedics, according to San Joaquin County Sheriff Deputy Les Garcia.

The second victim was found a short distance from Martinez and was also suffering from a gunshot with difficulty breathing.  Deputies said he was transported to an area hospital where he underwent surgery and is expected to survive.

Witnesses told officers that both victims had been outside of a business near two motorcycles.  A white compact SUV reportedly occupied by two white males sped through the parking lot headed toward the victims, ramming one of the motorcycles.

Deputies further quoted the witnesses saying that both subjects got out of the SUV and began battering the two men.  At one point, one of the subjects retrieved a handgun from the vehicle and began firing at the victims.

The two suspects ran back to their vehicle and fled the area at a high rate of speed, deputies said.

There is currently no additional suspect description or information at this time, according to the Sheriff’s office.  A motive for the shooting has not yet been established as the investigation is ongoing.
