High speed chase yields marijuana

A large amount of marijuana and a short 93 mile per hour chase got two Bay Area men citations Wednesday night. They were later released.

Manteca Police patrolman Dave Brown clocked the men on radar traveling eastbound at 93 miles per hour on the Highway 120 Bypass from the South Main Street overcrossing.  He pulled the white Volvo over at the Highway 99 interchange where he reportedly spotted a glass container on the floor of the vehicle with marijuana inside.

The men – both students at Merced College – were from San Ramon and Walnut Creek.
After a complete search of the vehicle, officers found a pound and a half of marijuana and hashish, police said.

Danyaal Abbasi, 19, of San Ramon was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, possession of marijuana for sale and transportation of marijuana for sale and possession of more than an ounce of marijuana.

The passenger in the vehicle Braden Shahani, 20, was charged with identical violations except for the driving under the influence offense.
