LATHROP — An employee at the Kentucky Fried Chicken in Lathrop foiled an armed robbery when he told the would-be robber he needed to get the manager before he could empty the two cash registers as demanded by the suspect.

But when the employee returned to the front along with the manager, the suspect had fled “by unknown means in an unknown direction,” according to Lathrop police reports.

The incident happened shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday at the KFC fast-food restaurant on West Louise Avenue in Lathrop. According to police, the suspect with a hooded sweatshirt covering his head entered the restaurant, lifted the front of his shirt displaying a handgun, and then demanded the employee to empty both registers.

The suspect is described as a black male in his late 20s, approximately 5-foot-7, 160 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair and was wearing a blue and black checkered hooded sweatshirt with the hood over his head, a white shirt underneath, and a pair of blue jeans with a black belt.
