An alert and patient Manteca Police patrolman’s efforts  yielded an auto theft suspect and three “slim jims” used to open car doors Tuesday morning.

Officer Ian Osborn had noticed a reported stolen 1999 Nissan pickup truck parked at a motel in the 100 block of Northwoods Avenue at about 9:30 a.m. and waited for a driver to slide behind the wheel.

It was about an hour later when Victor Parrillo, 40, a Manteca transient drove out of the motel’s parking lot and into the former Big Boy Market location across the street.  Officers converged on the pickup and took the driver out at gunpoint.

Detective Sam Gallego located two of the “slim jims” behind the truck’s front seat and the third in the bed of the pickup, police said.

Parrillo was charged with vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of burglary tools including four shaved keys that are used to bypass the need for the vehicle’s actual key.
