Audrey Terrano, 43, of Manteca has pled guilty to numerous check fraud charges in San Joaquin County Superior Court.

Manteca Police detective Steve Harris said she was sentenced to six years in state prison following her guilty plea in the Stockton court. Harris said Manteca detectives were alerted by residents of the El Portal Apartments where Terrano served as manager saying that they suspected her of going through their mail.

Both Manteca Police and San Joaquin County Sheriff’s deputies investigated some eight separate cases that began in September of last year involving the Manteca woman, Harris said.

Officers said in one incident Terrano went to the Manteca Wal-Mart store where she attempted to cash a stolen check on Oct. 3.

On Oct. 14 she attempted to cash an altered check for $600 at Citibank located on North Main Street. She was apprehended by officers a block away on Grant Street.

Following that arrest officers conducted a probation search at her apartment complex and reportedly located numerous fraudulent checks.

She has been in custody at the San Joaquin County Jail since Nov. 5. Harris says she had no previous record.
