A Manteca man was jailed Sunday afternoon on five felony charges that involved elder theft and dissuading a witness, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s booking log.
Terry Evan Hopper, 46, was arrested by Manteca Police patrolman Stephen Beermann and transported to the San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp. His court date was set for today at 1:30 p.m. in the Manteca Branch of the San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp where bail was set at $155,000.
The actual charges against Hopper included grand theft from a person, theft from an elder or dependent adult by a caretaker and two counts of dissuading a witness from reporting a crime.
Additional information on the arrest was unavailable from the Manteca Police Department.
Officers also arrested Delana Dolores Smith, 25, on a $100,000 warrant on two felony burglary counts. They were reportedly related to a home burglary and to an attempted residential burglary.
She was scheduled to appear in the Manteca Branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court at 1:30 on Monday. The website showed Monday evening that she was no longer in custody.
Investigators are still looking into the death of a Manteca man who was arrested on May 9 by Manteca police and reportedly charged with suspicion of elder abuse and attempted arson, according to the booking log.
Edward Gutierrez, 49, was discovered in his cell at about 7 p.m. in mid May by deputies at the San Joaquin County Jail. He was believed to have died of natural causes as no signs of any trauma were evident, according to a report.
