Police believe they arrested a major supplier of heroin to the Manteca area Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. during a traffic stop.

Patrolman Armen Avakian arrested  Daniel Jacob Serna, 22, whom he spotted driving up the access ramp and  onto the southbound lanes of Highway 99 at Yosemite Avenue.

Detective Steve Harris said police had reason to believe Serna was transporting drugs in his green 1999 Buick and they had been searching for him on the streets.

Police said Serna had over 40 balloons filled with heroin totaling 18.2 grams, eight pieces of rock cocaine with a weight of three grams along with a small amount of marijuana buds they said could be considered for personal use.

Serna was charged with four felonies and one misdemeanor.  The felonies include being in possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled narcotic substance for sale, possession of a cocaine base for sale and the sale and transportation of a narcotic controlled substance.  The misdemeanor was related to the possession of one ounce or less while driving.

Bail was set at $410,140 with a court date set for Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Department 1, Manteca Branch, San Joaquin County Superior Court.  He is being held in the San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp.
