Police seek 2nd suspect in robbery

The Manteca Police Department is still searching for a suspect that may have had a gun when be robbed a business on East Yosemite Avenue Sunday evening. 

According to surveillance footage, the suspect – described as a white or Hispanic male standing at 5-foot, 8-inches tall with a medium build and a black hooded sweatshirt pulled tight around his face – imitated that he had a gun and demanded cash from the clerk. 

A second man, that based on actions before, during and after robbery is believed to have been an accomplice, was apprehended by officers when they responded to the call. 

Both In-Shape Sports Club and America’s Best Value Inn are located within the immediate area. An AM/PM convenience store is just up the block, as is an El Pollo Loco fast food restaurant, a Valero gas station and a Wendy’s.

John Joseph Catalano, a 29-year-old transient, was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail Sunday night on charges of robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime. Catalano appeared in the Manteca branch of the San Joaquin Superior Court on Tuesday and is now only facing charges of robbery. His bail remains at $350,000 and he has no future scheduled court date as of now.
