Dwayne Harris, 29, of Manteca, has lost his leg as the result of being a victim of a shotgun blast at close range Sunday afternoon at a South Union Road apartment complex.

He is reported in stable condition in a Modesto Hospital.

Manteca Police located suspect Cody Guy Starkey, 19, late Sunday night at the home of relatives in the 200 block of Hemlock Avenue after allegedly shooting Harris in the upper thigh.  He was invited to the police department for an interview and later arrested, officers said.

Sgt. Tony Sousa said Tuesday that Starkey’s arraignment planned for Tuesday was moved to Thursday in the Manteca Branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court.  Additional charges will be added to the attempted murder complaint, he said.

Officers said Starkey had been living in the Union Road triplex with his mother when a confrontation erupted into gunfire with the shooter fleeing the scene.  Police confirmed they located the shotgun at the residence.

Officers said they didn’t believe the shooting was gang-related.  Starkey is being held in the San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp with no bail allowed.
