Manteca Police officers responded to a call at 10:42 p.m. Monday that multiple shots had been fired from a car into an occupied single family residence near Southside Park southwest of downtown

Watch commander Sgt. Chris Mraz said that he and other officers went to the scene of the shooting in the 500 block of Oregon Street where a car was reportedly seen fleeing the area.

Mraz said there were people in the home at the time of the gunfire assault but he confirmed that no one had been injured.  That area of Oregon Street is near Southside Park that has been a center of gang activity in recent years.

Officers declined to say whether the shooting was gang related and said they could not divulge the actual number of shots that were fired into the house or how many individuals were seen by witnesses to be inside the car.

Police have been called to shooting scenes numerous times during past weeks – some occurring back to back – however there have been few instances where anyone has actually been struck by gunfire.

There were preliminary reports that one man was shot in the knee cap at a party over the July 4th weekend at the FESM Hall on North Main Street.  While the man was treated for his injuries, officers said that no one at the scene has admitted to seeing the actual assault or shooting.

Another recent shooting occurred at the Quick Stop convenience store in the 500 block of North Main Street where a customer was accidently shot in the arm by a gunman who drove up in a car and reportedly intended to shoot someone else.
