Cabral Chrysler Jeep Dodge was hit by thieves between Sunday night and Tuesday morning, according to owner Bill Cabral.

Taken were a framed and autographed action photo of baseball superstar Willie Mays and a 2010 Jeep Patriot right off the sales lot.

The vehicle was taken sometime Sunday night from where it was parked in the sales lot to the west of the showroom.  The photograph disappeared around 11 a.m. Tuesday morning from its place on the wall in the men’s room, Cabral said.

The new vehicle was believed to have been towed over the concrete berm, across the grass and out onto the street leaving marks in the grass.  It was a front wheel drive and the wheels were locked, he said.

Cabral said three of his employees noticed the missing Mays’ photos over a short period of time pinpointing the apparent time of the theft.  The picture had been purchased some 15 years ago for about $150 and was mounted on the wall of the dealership when it first opened its doors at its Yosemite Avenue and Union Road location.

The longtime Manteca new car dealer said the collector’s photo of Mays showed the icon at the plate in a full-extension swing looking in the direction the ball was hit.
